Most people have only one engagement party. We
had three. In the beginning we had only wanted a simple gathering
of family and friends; a BBQ, a roving roast, that sort of thing.
Then once the ball got rolling, the party became bigger and bigger.
And then it got bigger again. The plan ended up being a restaurant
meal with 80+ people. This is not what we wanted so we cracked the
sads and refused to have such a huge party. We ended up deciding
to have two separate parties: dinner for the immediate families
at a nice restaurant, and a BBQ at the Victoria Lake for our friends.
The family dinner was at Cellar 47, one of Shepp's best (and most
expensive) restaurants.

My brother, Jamie, and his girlfriend
Kylie. Awww, what a cute couple. Hopefully it wont be too
long before they announce that they'll be tying the knot. |
 |
Here's my Mum and Dad. Sorry for all
the blank space, but my brother doesn't know how to take photos. |
 |
Jamie dared me to take a photo of the
garlic bread, and who am I not to accept such a challenge. |
 |
Gracie's Mum and Dad, John and Mary.
Pretty good as far as in-laws go. |
 |
Gracie's brother, Peter. |
 |
"I can see yooou" - I can tell
that Dad's starting to get a bit bored. |
 |
Oh yeah, Dad's bored. He shows everyone
an old trick he learned at school... how to make a bra out
of a napkin. Here's Jamie, modeling the latest in napkin-bra
fashions. |
 |
Here's a better pic of Mum and Dad. |
 |
I thought it would be a bit weird if
we didn't get a picture of the happy couple. :) |
Over all we had a great night and
it didn't cost us as much as we thought it would. Party number
2 was the BBQ for friends at the lake.
 |
It's Power Ade! He's Ade... He's Powerful! |
 |
Adam's response to "Don't just stand
there. Do something for the camera!" |
 |
Kent and Nikki showing their newly aquired
fangs. They're vampires you know. |
 |
Tracie: Happy. |
 |
Of course Braden was there. I mean, he's
my best man, so he'd bloody well wanna be there. |
 |
Nick looks to the sky and thinks... "Gee
that cloud really looks like Pamela Anderson" |
 |
Renae and David. We attended their engagement
last year some time. They had the kind of party we originally
wanted, which was a roving roast with family and friends. |
 |
My cousin Gayleen was down from Queensland
for a week or so, so it was great to have her down for my
party. She seemed to get along well with my friends... err...
namely... umm... Brian.
... ahem...
|
 |
Brian looks... err... happy. Yes. |
 |
In keeping with the creative camera angles,
Gaylene takes a pic of yours truly. |
 |
Jen, looking very happy to be here. |
 |
Although Jamie didn't stay for very long,
I decided top get a pic of him anyway. |
 |
Local celebrity, Don Nicholson, made
an appearance while walking his dog. Err.. Don's not in the
photo... that's the dog. |
 |
Dreddy demonstrates the fine art of looking
evil while eating lollies. |
 |
Wayne does his best Chopper Reid. |
 |
Now here's an interesting one. Justin
flat out refused to have his photo taken, so in a stroke of
sheer genius I got Scotty to hold a pen next to his head.
While Justin was confused, I took the photo. |
 |
The remains of our poor butter and the
poor fly drowning in it. |
 |
ZAC!!! |
 |
Scotty, takin' it easy. |
 |
Wayne and Di-za. |
 |
Kent shows us that they really don't
look that real up close. |
 |
Nikki's got her evil eye on you. |
 |
Nikki tries to look evil/seductive but
ends up looking like she has some kind of nervous condition. |
 |
Zen goes all moody and enigmatic. |
 |
Maddi getting poked in the eye by Cloudy.
Or maybe she's just applying some sun cream. |
 |
Me and Braden. |
 |
Again, a pic of the happy couple to remind
us what all these parties are for. |
 |
Braden looking... ummm... looking.. err..
I'm not quite sure what emotion that is... hmmm |
 |
Me and Ade. Here's a rare photo of Ade
not looking drunk. |
 |
Family pic of me, Jamie, Gracie and Gayleen. |
"Ahhh... I'm glad that's over
with..." we thought.
We were wrong.
Apparently Gracie's aunties and
uncles (on her Mum's side) were disappointed that Gracie's folks
didn't organise a party for them, so they organised a dinner at
the Shepp Club in our honour behind their backs. Not being too
happy about this, John (Gracie's Dad) decided that they were going
to have a party for us after all and invite all the aunties and
uncles on both sides as well as my parents. It was to be a BBQ
at Gracie's place... EXACTLY WHAT WE WANTED IN THE FIRST FRICKIN'
PLACE! *ahem* ... Anyway, since they already had the Shepp
Club booked for us, they decided to have the dinner anyway. They
told us that it was just a dinner and not yet another engagement
party... but they still congratulated us (again) and paid for
out dinner and drinks. Gah. It was a great night all the same,
and I am grateful... it's all just a bit overkill. I didn't take
any photos of Party #3, however the camera was out in full force
for the 4th and final party.
 |
Dad and Uncle Frank, yakking it up. It
was good that Dad had somebody to talk to. Dad doesn't normally
talk much at the best of times, but in the right company,
he gets on like a horse on fire... (and believe me, you don't
want to see a flaming horse!) |
 |
John and his mate, Gino, cook up the
shish kebabs on John's great little invention he made the
night before. |
 |
Uncle Nat, cooking up a storm on the
old barbie. |
 |
Peter, helping with the BBQing. |
 |
From left to right: Aunty Trish, Daniel,
Grandpa and Paul (showing us what he thinks of the current
conversation) |
 |
"There ain't no flies on me!"
... Uhh, Michael... I beg to differ... heheheh |
 |
If you think this looks disgusting, you
should of seen it yesterday. |
 |
A fine spread of culinary treats lay
before us, consisting of kebabs, calamari rings, salads and
other yumminess. |
 |
Adrian, Paul and Kirsten. |
 |
A blurred, uninteresting photo. What
is this doing here? |
 |
Me, taking a bit of a rest. |
 |
My choice of ale for the day: Cascade
Premium Lager. Nummy. |
 |
Mikey: "Heh... heh heh... heh heh...
check it out! I'm squishin' your head! heheh see?"
Gracie: "Stop being a dickhead!"
|
 |
Patrick and Grace (the other Grace). |
 |
Natalie being accosted by her boyfriend,
Anthony (out of frame). |
 |
Mum almost wasn't able to make it to
this event. She wasn't well the past few days, however this
morning, she was feeling a lot better, thank goodness. She
still didn't trust the seafood. Poor Mum. |
 |
Melissa: smiley. |
 |
Aunty Lina and Peter's girlfriend, Angela. |
 |
Mum and Aunty Trish. |
 |
Sarah and Anthony, belting out a few
tunes on the organ. |
 |
A very cool photo of Paul and Adrian. |
 |
Uncle Jerry and Aunty Milly. |
 |
Gracie's cousin, Julia, couldn't make
it to the party, but she did give Gracie a call. She looks
happy. |
 |
Julia's sister, Melissa, however, could
make it. And here she is. |
 |
Insert token photo of happy couple here. |
 |
"Now listen up kiddies..."
- Pete Mimmo tells a story. |
 |
We got some pretty funky presents. I
can't remember exactly who gave us what, as I dont have the
list with me, but these personalised towels came from Uncle
Frank and Aunty Trish. Too bad they spelled Gracie's name
wrong. It's spelled with an 'i' but its just pronounced Grace.
Call her 'Gracie' and she won't like it. Confusion was sure
to ensue, so I dont blame them. |
 |
You cant see it in the photo, but this
vase it quite huge. I plan on drinking much beer from it. |
 |
We gots outselves one of these funky
iron fruit bowls, which is good, because we don't have much
in the way or arty/decorative things (unless you call a Godzilla
head, a Spam can and a Spawn model arty/decorative). |
 |
Lotsa new glasses for our new china cabinet
(when we get one). |
 |
A lovely new dinner set! |
 |
A glass cheese/biscuit/whatever platter.
Nice. |
 |
More champagne flutes. Yeehar! Our china
cabinet is gunna rock. |
 |
Square white platter things. Very nice.
I like simple and elegant things. |
Phew. Well it's all over. I hope
we're only going to have one weding.
